Realtor Howard C. Richmond, President and Treasurer, and Doredda L. Richmond, Vice President and Secretary, of Exit Realty Hawaiian Islands opened an Oahu office -- the company’s first in Hawaii -- in July of this year. As Hawaii regional owners of Exit, the couple has focused efforts over the past three months on building a presence for the company island-wide and reports increasing interest in Exit’s unique business model.
A licensed Realtor for more than 30 years with experience in sales, property management, and real estate auctions, Howard Richmond serves as the company’s Principal Broker. He holds the Certified Auctioneers Institute (CAI) designation, the most prestigious designation awarded in the auction industry, and has conducted numerous real estate and personal property auctions, as well as auctions for television fundraisers and charities. Doredda Richmond, who has been in sales for more than 25 years, is the company’s business and marketing administrator, as well as assistant to the Principal Broker.
Formerly of Palm Beach, Florida, Howard and Doredda Richmond became interested in relocating in Hawaii and opening a local Exit Realty franchise when they were married here two years ago.
Their mission statement is "Developing all the Hawaiian Islands with Exit Brokerages providing a future for Brokers and agents, additional income streams over and above commissions, enhanceable pension plans, and beneficiary benefits."
Founded in 1996 in Toronto, Canada by company CEO Steve Morris, Exit Realty currently has over 40,000 agents and over 1,200 offices throughout the U. S. and Canada. One of the unique features of Morris’s business model is a system through which sales associates can earn a percentage on the sales of their sponsoring real estate agent. According to Howard Richmond, Exit offers sponsoring sales associates and recruiting Brokers 10 percent single level residual bonuses on the closed transactions of associates they bring to the company and mentor. Richmond explains that this process is not multi-level marketing.
"We’ve had numerous inquiries about Exit Realty since setting up a local office...in fact, we have already signed up a franchisee, Theresa Harden, Principal Broker for Hawaii Dream Realty LLC, who has purchased protected territorial rights for the Windward side of Oahu and will be doing business as Exit Hawaii Dream Realty," Richmond said.
"Agents are understandably interested in learning more about our earning potential. I tell them to take a look at the facts...Exit Realty continues to grow, with over 1,225 franchises sold, over 41,520 agents recruited, and over $115 million paid in sponsorship bonuses since 2000. Over the past five years, Exit Realty’s growth has averaged 77 percent per year...we believe this growth record speaks for itself."
And why the name "Exit"? "The name was ingeniously chosen by our founder and CEO Steve Morris," Doredda Richmond said. "First, when you buy a new home, you exit the old one. And, of course, it does let our name into just about every public building in America, and by law it must be illuminated. So we’re shining 24 hours a day while the competition is sleeping."
